Italian Lawmakers Released by Israel Express Concern for Detained Activists
Rome: 5-Star Movement (M5S) Senator Marco Croatti expressed deep concern for the Global Sumud Flotilla activists who remain detained by Israel after his return to Italy. Croatti, along with three other Italian lawmakers, was released and arrived back in Rome on Friday via a scheduled flight from Tel Aviv.
According to Ansa News Agency, Croatti emphasized the urgency of the situation upon his arrival at Fiumicino airport, stating, “We are tremendously worried about all the Italians left in the detention centre.” He further highlighted the challenging experiences faced during their detention, adding, “We had a very difficult night, now we must bring everyone home.”
Democratic Party (PD) Lower House MP Arturo Scotto, who was also among the lawmakers released, shared similar concerns. Scotto assured that they were safe but stressed the importance of focusing on the activists still held by Israeli authorities. “Our thoughts now go to all the activists, for them to be released as soon as possible,” he remarked.
The lawmakers’ release and their subsequent appeals underscore the ongoing diplomatic efforts to secure the freedom of other detained activists, emphasizing the international dimension of the situation.
