Italian Inflation Rate Increases to 1.7% in June

Rome: Italy’s annual inflation rate rose to 1.7% this month from 1.6% in May, according to a preliminary estimate released by Istat on Monday.

According to Ansa News Agency, the national statistics agency indicated that the rise in the cost of living was mainly due to an increase in food prices, which climbed by 3.5% in June, compared to 3.0% in May.

Additionally, Istat reported that its consumer-price index saw a month-on-month increase of 0.2%. The agency’s shopping trolley index, which tracks the prices of food and household and personal care goods, rose by 3.1% in June, up from 2.7% in May.

Core inflation, which excludes energy and unprocessed food, also saw an uptick, increasing to 2.1% from 1.9% in May.
