Italian Flotilla Delegation Rejects Government Mediation Amid Tensions

Rome: The Italian delegation in the Global Sumud Flotilla for Gaza has refused the Italian government’s offer of mediation, in the wake of Israeli attacks on the flotilla’s boats. The government had proposed rerouting the aid through Cyprus, with plans to deliver it to Gaza via the Latin Patriarchate in Jerusalem.

According to Ansa News Agency, the Italian delegation, representing the Global Movement to Gaza’s Steering Committee, communicated to Italian authorities that it does not accept the proposal received for diverting aid to Cyprus. They emphasized that their mission remains focused on lifting the siege on Gaza and delivering humanitarian aid directly to the affected population. The delegation views any interference or attacks on their mission as violations of the law.

The flotilla recently faced aerial attacks involving drones that launched sound bombs and pepper spray. These incidents, attributed to Israel, have heightened the tension surrounding the mission. The delegation remains committed to its original objectives despite the challenges faced.
