Italian Coast Guard Vessel Departs Albania with 43 Asylum Seekers
Shengjin: An Italian coast guard vessel departed from the Albanian port of Shengjin on Saturday morning with 43 asylum seekers on board. The asylum seekers, who had been transported to Albania last Tuesday by the Italian Navy vessel Cassiopea, are from Bangladesh and Egypt.
According to Ansa News Agency, the group must return to Italy after Rome appeals judges on Friday night did not validate their detention at Italian-run fast-track processing centers in Albania. The asylum seekers are expected to reach the Puglia port city at 8:30 pm on Saturday. This group is part of the third set of asylum seekers whose detention at Italian-run processing centers in Albania has not been validated by Italian courts.
