Duran Duran Set to Return to Sanremo Festival After Four Decades

Sanremo: British synth-pop band Duran Duran will make a significant return to the Sanremo song festival, four decades after their initial performance in Italy in 1985. This announcement was made by Carlo Conti, the presenter and artistic director of the event. Conti confirmed the finalization of the deal, stating that Duran Duran will perform at the Ariston theatre on February 13.

According to Ansa News Agency, the 75th edition of the Sanremo festival is scheduled for February 11-15. Conti, who hails from Florence, takes over from Amadeus, who led the festival for five years. Sanremo, a national cultural institution, has played a pivotal role in launching the careers of numerous Italian music stars, including Eros Ramazzotti, Laura Pausini, and Maneskin.

In addition to their performance at Sanremo, Duran Duran will also conduct a series of concerts in Italy in June. The band will perform at Rome’s Circus Maximus on June 15-16, Bari’s Fiera del Levante on June 18, and the I-DAYS Milan at the Ippodromo Snai San Siro on June 20.

Duran Duran, formed in Birmingham in 1978, gained prominence in the early 1980s with their music videos. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, having sold over 100 million records. They have achieved significant chart success with 18 singles on the top US charts and 21 Top 20 hits in the UK.

Their discography includes popular tracks such as “Hungry Like the Wolf,” “Ordinary World,” and “Girls on Film.” The band’s performances in Italy will feature songs from their latest album, “Danse Macabre,” released in October 2023.
