Italian Actress Eleonora Giorgi Passes Away at 71

Rome: Italian actress Eleonora Giorgi has died at the age of 71, her family said on Monday. Giorgi was a prominent figure in the Italian film industry, known for her roles in both comedic and dramatic films during the 1970s and 1980s.

According to Ansa News Agency, Giorgi had announced her pancreatic cancer diagnosis in 2023 on television. Despite the news, she maintained a positive outlook, encouraging people to “live without wasting time.”

Giorgi began her acting career at the age of 19 with an appearance in the 1973 erotic film ‘Storia di una monaca di clausura’ (History of a Cloistered Nun), produced by Tonino Cervi. She starred alongside Catherine Spaak, marking the start of a prolific career in cinema.

One of her most acclaimed roles was in Carlo Verdone’s 1982 bittersweet comedy ‘Borotalco’ (Talcum Powder), where she portrayed Nadia Vandelli, a character infatuated with the singer and songwriter Lucio Dalla. Giorgi also collaborated with Verdone again in the 1988 film ‘Compagni di scuola’ (Classmates).

Beyond films, Giorgi was featured in popular television series such as ‘I Cesaroni’ (The Cesaronis) and took on directing with the 2009 feature film ‘L’ultima estate’ (The Last Summer).
