Huge Rise in Anti-Semitic Acts Says Piantedosi

Rome: There has been a huge increase in anti-Semitic acts in Italy since the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, and during the Israeli retaliation in Gaza, Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi said Wednesday.

According to Ansa News Agency, “From October 7, 2023, to date, the Observatory for Security against Discriminatory Acts, operating within the Ministry of the Interior, has recorded 733 reports of anti-Semitic acts, 140 of which in Rome and 86 in Milan, a sharp increase compared to the pre-conflict period,” Piantedosi said in response to question time in the Chamber of Deputies.

The minister noted that “all observation and control measures relating to sensitive targets linked to the State of Israel have been strengthened, and collaboration and information exchange with Jewish associations and institutions have been increased in order to ensure constant monitoring of risk factors and potential targets throughout the country.”
