Great Victory for Centre Right in Calabria Says Salvini

Rome: Incumbent Governor Roberto Occhiuto has scored a great victory for the centre right in retaining his post as Calabria governor, right-wing League party leader, Deputy Premier and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini said after projections gave the centre-right Forza Italia (FI) man around 60% of the vote in the southern region.

According to Ansa News Agency, Salvini expressed his satisfaction with the election results, highlighting the significant margin by which Occhiuto secured his position. Salvini characterized the victory as a clear choice by the citizens of Calabria, contrasting the outcome with recent unrest in Italy. He remarked on the perceived divide between those engaged in protests and the local citizens focused on regional well-being.

Salvini attributed the victory to the citizens’ preference for stability and governance over the recent protest activities linked to pro-Gaza demonstrations. He emphasized the importance of maintaining order and supporting law enforcement, suggesting that the election results were a mandate for the centre-right’s approach to governance.
