Tridico Extends Congratulations to Occhiuto After Election Victory in Calabria

Calabria: Defeated centre-left candidate Pasquale Tridico on Monday called the winning and incumbent centre-right Governor Roberto Occhiuto to wish him well after his election victory in Calabria. “I called Occhiuto a little while ago to offer him my sincere best wishes for this victory, hoping he can govern this region as best he can,” Tridico stated during a press briefing.

According to Ansa News Agency, Tridico reflected on the election, describing it as a “real, intense, and very short battle.” He expressed surprise at Occhiuto’s resignation prior to the election, stating it caught the centre-left and progressive camp off guard. Despite this, Tridico acknowledged the strong response from the centre-left forces and voiced appreciation for their efforts.

Tridico criticized Occhiuto’s resignation as an opportunistic move aimed at finding the opposition unprepared. Nevertheless, Tridico affirmed that his camp fought hard, fully aware of the challenges they faced. While expressing disappointment over the defeat, Tridico found solace in the widespread support he received.
