Florence’s Historic Vasari Corridor to Reopen After Major Renovation.

Florence: The Vasari Corridor, the covered walkway linking the Uffizi Gallery with Palazzo Pitti in Florence, will reopen to the public on December 21. The corridor, which runs above the iconic Ponte Vecchio spanning the Arno River, has been closed since 2016 due to safety concerns.

According to Ansa News Agency, the public will once again have the opportunity to experience this historic passage following the completion of an 11-million-euro renovation project that commenced in 2022. The most recent renovation before this one took place in the 1990s, highlighting the significance of the current restoration efforts.

The Vasari Corridor was originally constructed in 1565, designed by architect Giorgio Vasari. It was commissioned by Florence’s Medici rulers, who sought a discrete and secure route to travel between the city’s government seat at Palazzo Vecchio and their private residence at Palazzo Pitti on the opposite side of the Arno River.
