Rome: Raffaele Fitto on Saturday resigned as Italy’s minister for European affairs, the South, cohesion, and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) to take on his new role as an executive vice president of the European Commission with the brief for cohesion and the NRRP.
According to Ansa News Agency, Fitto, a leading member of Premier Giorgia Meloni’s right-wing Brothers of Italy (FdI) party, expressed his gratitude on Facebook, describing his two years as minister as “thrilling” and “intense.” In his post, he thanked the prime minister for her confidence and support, as well as other government partners, lawmakers, and representatives of institutions.
The new European Commission, led by Ursula von der Leyen, is set to take office on December 1, marking the beginning of a new five-year legislative cycle.
