Fincantieri Building First Hydrogen-Powered Cruise Ship


Ancona: Fincantieri and Viking Cruises on Tuesday announced the world’s first cruise ship powered by hydrogen stored on board, which will be used for both propulsion and generating electricity on board, named the “Viking Libra”. The unit is currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona, with delivery scheduled for the end of 2026.



According to Ansa News Agency, the “Viking Libra” will have a gross tonnage of approximately 54,300 tons and a length of 239 meters. The ship will be able to accommodate up to 998 people in 499 cabins. It will be able to sail and operate with zero emissions, allowing it to access even the most environmentally sensitive areas.
