2025 Economic Growth Projected to Be Limited at 0.6%: Government Sources

Rome: Government sources revealed on Tuesday that the GDP growth for the year is expected to be very limited, with a projection of 0.6%. This announcement comes on the eve of a critical cabinet meeting set to examine the Public Finance Document, previously known as the DEF, which is due for a name change to DFP.

According to Ansa News Agency, the anticipated economic growth aligns with recent estimates from the Bank of Italy, which also projected an increase of 0.6%. The government has indicated that any additional economic measures will require new funding sources or exceptions to current rules.

The upcoming Def is described as a “technical” document, focusing solely on compliance with existing regulations. It will not include a programmatic framework or provide details on the impact of duties or defense spending. This document, which is set to be renamed the DFP following regulatory procedures, will adhere to the 2024 EU Regulation on economic policies and budget surveillance, as well as the 2009 accounting law. Consequently, it will feature only two sections and exclude programmatic forecasts.

The decision to limit the scope of the document is not a matter of choice but rather a requirement to comply with European and national regulations, as explained by the sources.
