Fidesz MEP Urges Rejection of EU Migration Pact, Calls for Lifting of Fines on Hungary

Budapest: Kinga Gál, chair of the Fidesz-Christian Democrat European Parliament delegation, has called for the rejection of the European Union’s migration pact and the lifting of fines imposed on Hungary for its efforts to halt migration. Gál criticized the outgoing European Commission’s decision to push through the migration pact, describing it as a significant error and asserting that it perpetuates ineffective solutions to migration issues.

According to About Hungary, Gál addressed an international press conference, emphasizing that mass illegal migration poses a threat to European safety and undermines the continent’s stability and the Schengen free movement area. She advocated for a radical change in approach, prioritizing the protection of external borders and assessing asylum applications outside Europe’s borders. Gál also stressed the need for cooperation with countries from which migrants originate and transit, as well as the return of individuals without legal rights to remain in the EU.

ighted Hungary’s early warnings in 2015 about the risks and unsustainability of mass illegal migration, noting the country’s proactive proposals for strengthening and controlling external borders. She criticized the European Commission for penalizing Hungary’s border protection efforts, describing the punitive measures as unjust.

Tamas Deutsch, leader of the Fidesz-Christian Democrat European Parliament group, remarked on the European Parliament’s decision regarding the 2025 EU budget during its plenary session. He indicated that Fidesz supports a budget advancing peace, curbing illegal migration, and reinforcing national sovereignty. The Patriots’ proposal aimed to equip the EU with effective tools to stop illegal migration and protect external borders, including the procurement of border protection equipment and the construction and maintenance of border fences.
