EU’s Capability to Stay a Global Leader Asserted by Mattarella

Florence: The European Union possesses the necessary resources to maintain its status as a global leader, President Sergio Mattarella stated to the European Central Bank’s governing council in Florence. Mattarella highlighted the EU’s vast human and material resources, emphasizing their substantial quality and potential to ensure the well-being of its citizens.

According to Ansa News Agency, Mattarella underscored the EU’s developed social protection mechanisms, which provide healthcare and shield citizens from economic challenges. He affirmed the EU’s role as a defender of democracy, fundamental freedoms, and the rule of law, with a responsibility to promote an international order based on peace and human dignity.

Mattarella also pointed out the EU’s ongoing efforts to expand its free trade network across North America, Latin America, and Asia. He suggested that these initiatives foster common interests and shared objectives, which he described as the strongest foundation for peace.
