EU Collaborates with Italy on US Pasta Tariff Dispute

Brussels: European Commission Spokesperson Olof Gill announced that the EU executive is working closely with Italy to address the United States’ anti-dumping case concerning pasta imports.

According to Ansa News Agency, the Department of Commerce has revealed plans to impose anti-dumping duties exceeding 91% on pasta starting in January, adding to the existing 15% duties.

Gill emphasized that the European Commission, in close cooperation with the Italian Government, is engaging with the United States on this investigation and will step in if necessary. He noted that the anti-dumping investigation is separate from the EU-US joint statement that supports the current 15% tariffs.

In response to the impending tariffs, the CEO of Italian pasta company La Molisana, Giuseppe Ferro, expressed the company’s readiness to open a factory in the United States to circumvent the steep duties. Ferro stated, “We will try to talk to the US administration because it is not possible for us to do business with tariffs at 107%.”
