Democratic Party Calls for Political Clarification Following European Parliament Split
Rome: The centre-left Democratic Party (PD) is seeking a political clarification following a division within the party during Wednesday’s European Parliament vote on the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s new ReArm Europe plan. PD leader Elly Schlein announced that the party leadership will now assess the appropriate form for this clarification.
According to Ansa News Agency, Schlein emphasized the necessity of a political clarification, stating, “A political clarification is needed, we will evaluate the forms and methods.” The split arose over the 800 billion euro rearmament plan, which Schlein opposed. The PD must now navigate the internal disagreements to maintain cohesion and present a unified stance moving forward.
