Crimes Against Children Surpass 7,000 Mark in Italy in 2024

Rome: The number of crimes against children crossed the 7,000 mark for the first time in Italy in 2024, the Terre des Hommes Foundation said on Monday in a report based on figures from the Criminal Police Central Directorate.

According to Ansa News Agency, there were 7,204 cases of felonies against minors last year, marking an increase of 252 cases compared to 2023, which represents a 4% rise. The report highlighted a significant concern as crimes against children have surged by 35% over the past decade.

The report further revealed that digital-related crimes were at the forefront of this alarming trend. Among these, child pornography cases showed a particularly steep increase, rising by 63% in just one year. The data underscores the urgent need for enhanced measures to protect children from digital threats.
