CamHub Faces Scrutiny Over Unauthorized Videos from Italian Homes

Rome: Italy’s privacy watchdog has issued an urgent warning to ICF Technology, the US company behind the CamHub website, instructing them not to publish images illegally obtained from video cameras in Italian homes or other private locations. This directive follows several incidents involving the unauthorized dissemination of videos from private cameras.

According to Ansa News Agency, one notable incident involves the unauthorized online release of intimate videos featuring Italian TV presenter Stefano De Martino and his partner. CamHub, which currently does not provide services in Italy, is known for offering streaming services with sexually explicit content.

The Italian Data Protection Authority emphasized that the collection and distribution of such videos violate both European and national privacy laws. They warned that reactivating the site could lead to legal consequences, as it involves processing personal data without the explicit consent of the individuals involved, particularly given the sensitive nature of the content.

The authority highlighted the potential for serious and irreparable harm to individuals whose private and intimate content is disseminated without consent. They have reserved the right to implement further measures based on the results of an ongoing investigation.
