Confindustria Piemonte’s Strategic Mission to Japan Showcases Piedmontese Industrial Excellence
Piedmont: Piedmont’s companies representing sectors such as electronics, biotech, plastics, automotive, wine, lubricants, metalworking, and business consulting are at the forefront of a mission to Japan organized by Confindustria Piemonte, the regional chapter of the Italian industrial association.
According to Ansa News Agency, the event ‘Piedmont Meets Osaka. Piedmontese Excellence, Exports and Investments’ was held at the Italy Pavilion of Expo 2025 Osaka, during the week dedicated to the northern Italian region. The mission aims to boost exports, create joint ventures, and attract new Japanese investors, complementing the 19 Japanese companies already operating in Piedmont with over 50 plants and more than 52,300 employees.
In 2024, Japan accounted for over 1.2% of Piedmont’s exports, focusing on high added-value products characterized by quality. Alessandro Battaglia, President of the Internationalization Commission of Confindustria Piemonte, emphasized the region’s industrial strengths, noting the presence of more than 1,300 foreign multinationals employing over 150,000 people.
Giorgia Garola, Vice President of Unione Industriali Torino, highlighted the synergy between Piedmont and Japan, stating that the mission is not only about promoting ‘Made in Piedmont’ but also about fostering an industrial and cultural heritage compatible with Japan’s tradition of excellence. She pointed out the opportunities for technological and scientific cooperation for businesses entering the Japanese market.
On the institutional front, Piedmont Governor Alberto Cirio, Deputy Governor Elena Chiorino, and Councillor Andrea Tronzano discussed investment support tools, including the ‘settlement contract’ with approximately 11 million euros available until 2031 to support major companies that generate new qualified employment.
Mario Vattani, the Commissioner General for Italy at Expo 2025 Osaka, emphasized the significance of the visibility offered by the exhibition in Japan, describing the Italy Pavilion as a hub for cultural and economic diplomacy showcasing Italy’s global contributions.
Confindustria’s mission also includes significant business visits: to the Nissha plant in Kyoto, Toyota City, and the Panasonic Museum in Osaka. These visits underscore the strategic industrial relationships between Piedmont and Japan.
