Children in ‘Inhumane Conditions’ in Gaza, Says Mattarella

Rome: President Sergio Mattarella expressed grave concerns over the conditions faced by children in Gaza, describing them as “inhuman” during a ceremony where he was honored with the Burgio Award for his contributions to safeguarding children’s dignity.

According to Ansa News Agency, President Mattarella highlighted the persistent threats to children’s rights, especially in conflict zones, during his speech at the Quirinal Palace in Rome. He emphasized the dire humanitarian crisis impacting children, citing examples from various regions affected by war and conflict.

President Mattarella reflected on the dire situations witnessed globally, mentioning children suffering from severe malnutrition in Sudan, children kidnapped in Ukraine, and the tragic events of October 7, where children lost their lives or were abducted. He particularly noted the children in Gaza, who are enduring harsh conditions, including malnutrition even in hospitals that have been bombed and lack essential resources.

He concluded by stat
ing that these situations are the tragic outcomes of the relentless violence associated with wars, calling for greater protection and attention to the rights and welfare of children globally.
