Bosphorus Film Festival Opens Amid Global Challenges

ISTANBUL: The 12th Bosphorus Film Festival, organized by the Bosphorus Culture and Arts Foundation, opened with a ceremony at the historic Atlas 1948 Cinema in Istanbul, attracting significant figures from the cultural and governmental sectors. The festival aims to celebrate international cinema while addressing pressing global issues.

According to Anadolu Agency, the festival, which runs until October 25, features a variety of films from countries including Peru, Argentina, Canada, and Nepal. The festival’s chairman, Ogn Sanlier, praised the event’s resilience over the past 12 years, having overcome obstacles such as the coronavirus pandemic, earthquakes, and economic difficulties. He emphasized the festival’s vital role in Turkey, particularly in Istanbul’s cinematic scene.

The festival’s artistic director, Enes Erbay, commented on current global issues, notably the situation in Palestine. He expressed hope that cinema could act as a medium for empathy and understanding. This year, the festival includes 1
0 films in the National Feature Film Competition, featuring both world and Turkish premieres.

The non-competition section highlights films from underrepresented regions, with a particular focus on Palestine.
