Barcelona Triumphs Over Crvena Zvezda in Overtime Thriller

BELGRADE: Spanish basketball team Barcelona secured a hard-fought victory against EuroLeague leaders Crvena Zvezda, winning 98-94 in an overtime clash on Friday. The tightly contested match concluded regular time at 84-84, pushing both teams into an additional period where Barcelona emerged victorious.

According to Anadolu Agency, Czech center Jan Vesely was instrumental in leading Barcelona to victory, contributing 19 points at the Belgrade Arena. Despite a strong performance from Crvena Zvezda’s Brazilian guard Yago Dos Santos, who scored 23 points, it was not enough to prevent the Serbian club from facing a narrow defeat. Crvena Zvezda continues to lead the standings with a 3-1 record, while Barcelona follows closely behind, differentiated only by points.

In another EuroLeague encounter, Turkish team Anadolu Efes staged an impressive comeback against Greek club Olympiacos Piraeus, overcoming a 15-point deficit to win 91-89. US guard Shane Larkin spearheaded the hosts’ rally with 24 points at Istanbul’s B
asketball Development Center. Despite French forward Evan Fournier’s 20 points for Olympiacos, the Greek side fell short.

Olympiacos currently holds the seventh spot in the standings with a 2-2 record, while Anadolu Efes has risen to ninth place, also with a 2-2 record, due to a points difference. The results from Friday’s EuroLeague games also saw Monaco defeating Virtus Segafredo Bologna 101-85, and ASVEL Villeurbanne winning against Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz 76-69.
