German Chancellor Scholz Arrives in Istanbul for Talks with President Erdogan


ISTANBUL: German Chancellor Olaf Scholz arrived in Istanbul late Friday to engage in discussions with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, marking a significant diplomatic engagement between Germany and Turkey.

According to Anadolu Agency, Scholz’s arrival at Istanbul Airport was marked by a welcome ceremony conducted by Turkish Ambassador to Berlin Ahmet Basar Sen and other officials. The two leaders are set to meet on Saturday, followed by a joint news conference. The discussions are expected to cover a variety of pressing topics, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, developments in the Middle East, migration issues, EU-Turkey relations, bilateral ties, and economic policies.

The meeting in Istanbul follows a previous encounter between Scholz and Erdogan in September at the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York, highlighting the continued dialogue between the two nations on critical international and regional issues.
