Bollywood Encouraged to Shoot Films in Italy, Says Italian Foreign Minister

Brescia: Bollywood should come to shoot its films in Italy, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani told a plenary session of the Italy-India Forum in Brescia Thursday. Spying Sandokan TV icon Kabir Bedi in the audience, Tajani voiced the hope that the veteran Indian-Italian actor would act as an “ambassador” between the two countries’ film industries.

According to Ansa News Agency, Tajani emphasized the mutual appreciation between the two nations, stating, “In India, they love Italian cinema and Italian landscapes” that can be utilized in Indian cinematography. He extended an invitation to the world of Indian cinema to explore Italy’s diverse locations for their film productions.

Indian Minister of Industry and Commerce Piyush Goyal echoed similar sentiments at the event. Kabir Bedi, who gained fame in the 1970s for his role as Sandokan, also addressed reporters, expressing his dual affection for both countries. He remarked, “I have always seen myself as an unofficial Italian ambassador in India and an Indian in Italy,” underscoring the personal and professional ties that bind him to both nations.

Bedi further expressed his hopes for increased cultural exchanges, stating, “I hope to see more Italy in India and more India in Italy.” His statement highlighted the potential for strengthened collaborations between the Indian and Italian film industries, promising a rich cultural exchange and mutual growth.
