Body of Woman Killed by Flash Floods Found in Spigno Monferrato

Spigno monferrato: Firefighters on Wednesday discovered the body of a female German tourist who was swept away by flash floods while camping in Spigno Monferrato, in the province of Alessandra. The incident occurred between Sunday and Monday night, and the woman’s body was located approximately four kilometers from the valley of the campsite she was staying at, sources revealed.

According to Ansa News Agency, Italy has been experiencing a wave of torrential rain and storms that have led to flooding and landslides across various regions this week. A significant downpour on Tuesday turned the streets on the Gulf of Naples island of Ischia into rivers, rendering roads impassable and submerging cars in water.

Further flooding was reported in Como and other towns adjacent to Lake Como on Wednesday after heavy rains battered the area overnight. This extreme weather followed similar conditions at the start of the week, exacerbating the situation.

In response to the severe weather, the Veneto region has declared a regional state of emergency due to the impact of the storms. Similarly, Liguria is preparing to request a state of emergency from the central government for its Val Fontanabuona area due to the extensive damage incurred.

Scientists attribute these extreme weather events, such as heatwaves, droughts, supercharged storms, and flooding, to the climate crisis fueled by human greenhouse gas emissions. The predominant cause of these emissions is the burning of fossil fuels, including oil, gas, and coal, which continues to generate substantial profits for the world’s energy corporations.
