USB Announces New General Strike and 100 Protests Across Italy for Gaza

Rome: Grass-roots trade union USB declared that it would initiate a wildcat general strike and organize protests in 100 Italian cities in support of Gaza. This announcement follows the success of Monday’s strike and demonstrations, which saw participation from approximately 500,000 individuals across 80 cities. The events were marred by violent incidents involving around 100 extremists in Milan, leading to injuries among 60 police officers.

According to Ansa News Agency, a USB representative made the announcement at a press conference held at the Italian parliament building in Rome. The representative stated, “We will call a new general strike, and this time we will do so without warning,” emphasizing the union’s commitment to ongoing strikes. The press conference was convened by the Global Movement to Gaza Italy, highlighting the union’s determination to further its cause.

The USB representative conveyed that the slogan ‘let’s block everything’ would be echoed nationwide. In Rome, Piazza dei Cinquecento is set to become a site for permanent protest for Gaza. This initiative is part of a broader effort to organize 100 protests for Gaza throughout Italy, showcasing the union’s resolve to maintain pressure on the issue.
