Annunziata Declines Participation in European Parliament Mission to Israel

Brussels: Centre-left Democratic Party (PD) MEP Lucia Annunziata announced she will not join next week’s European Parliament delegation mission to Israel. This decision comes as a protest against the recent Israeli parliament vote on the annexation of the occupied West Bank and the ongoing settler violence.

According to Ansa News Agency, Annunziata, who has a background as a TV journalist, stated her firm decision not to take part in the mission, which was organized at the invitation of the Knesset. She cited the recent legislative approval concerning the annexation of the West Bank and the continued attacks on the United Nations as key reasons for her withdrawal. Annunziata emphasized that the actions of the Israeli Parliament indicate a lack of readiness to engage in peace talks.

Annunziata clarified that her decision aligns with the Democratic Party at the national level, indicating a collective stance on the issue. Her refusal to participate in the delegation is a symbolic move to express disapproval of the current developments in the region.
