Meloni Calls for New Economic Pact Amid US Tariffs Crisis

Rome: Premier Giorgia Meloni on Tuesday called for a new pact in response to the US tariffs crisis during talks with Italian business sectors that are expected to be most affected by the proposed increases in trade taxes. Meloni emphasized the need for unity among businesses and trade unions to address the challenging economic environment.

According to Ansa News Agency, Meloni highlighted Italy’s strengthened credibility and prudent budget policies as a foundation for this proposed pact. She urged the productive sectors, the “Made in Italy” brand, and all employers and trade unions to collaborate in forming a united front. The aim is to bolster the nation’s economic productivity and competitiveness in the face of the crisis.

Meloni remarked on the potential of crises to serve as opportunities for growth and transformation. She reminded her audience of the Greek origin of the word “crisis,” which signifies choice and decision, stressing the importance of prioritizing strategic choices during this period.
