Vatican City: President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday congratulated new Pope Leo XIV and asked him to continue supporting Ukraine. “Ukraine deeply appreciates the consistent position of the Holy See in upholding international law, condemning the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and protecting the rights of innocent civilians,” said Zelensky.
According to Ansa News Agency, Zelensky expressed hope for the Vatican’s continued moral and spiritual support for Ukraine’s efforts to restore justice and achieve lasting peace. In his message, the Ukrainian President wished Pope Leo XIV “wisdom, inspiration, and strength, both spiritual and physical, in fulfilling his noble mission.” He concluded with the phrase, “Ad multos annos!” which is a traditional wish for many more years.
