Young People Gather at St Peter’s Square for Pope Francis’s Funeral

Vatican City: Young people were out in force at Pope Francis’s funeral on Saturday, with many saying they appreciated the late pontiff’s efforts to promote peace and help the needy.

According to Ansa News Agency, the presence of young mourners highlighted the significant impact Pope Francis had on the younger generation. One young mourner expressed, “Pope Francis was unique because he sought peace between peoples. It will be difficult to have another one like him.” This sentiment was echoed by many who viewed Francis as a historical figure committed to creating harmony among different communities.

The young attendees at the funeral described Pope Francis as “a father, a grandfather” who devoted his life to aiding those in need. One individual remarked, “He would have wanted us young people near him in St Peter’s Square, and not all these powerful people, while we are far away.” This reflects the late Pope’s dedication to fostering a close connection with the youth and marginalized groups throughout his papacy.
