Worker Crushed to Death Near Rome Highlights Rising Workplace Fatalities

Guidonia Montecelio: A 57-year-old worker was crushed to death at a transport company in Guidonia Montecelio near Rome as an alarming spate of fatal workplace accidents in Italy continued.

According to Ansa News Agency, the man died instantly after being crushed by a gate at the entrance of the transport company where he worked. Emergency healthcare personnel and firefighters were present at the scene.

Police and labour inspectors are investigating the incident. Preliminary information suggests that the worker, who was from Rome, got out of his car to open the gate, which then fell on him.

The national labour accidents and occupational illness agency INAIL reported last month that the number of fatal work-related accidents had increased to 797 in 2024 compared to the 790 recorded in 2023.
