Woman Dead After Migrant Boat Sinks in Southern Mediterranean
Lampedusa: A woman has been pronounced dead after a migrant boat sank in the southern Mediterranean overnight, while 87 individuals were rescued by a Tunisian fishing vessel, sources reported on Monday. The tragic incident occurred approximately 45 miles from the Italian island of Lampedusa, within the Tunisian-Maltese search-and-rescue (SAR) zone.
According to Ansa News Agency, the survivors, along with the body of the 30-year-old woman, were transferred to an Italian Coast Guard patrol boat and subsequently taken to Lampedusa. The migrants, who were rescued, hail from various African nations, including Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Mali, Senegal, and Sudan.
