Voluntary Manslaughter Charge Dropped in Brandizzo Train Disaster Investigation

Ivrea: The Ivrea prosecutor’s office announced the conclusion of its investigation into the catastrophic event that occurred at Brandizzo station near Turin on August 30, 2023. During this incident, five workers were tragically killed when a train traveling at 160 km per hour struck them while they were on the tracks.

According to Ansa News Agency, the investigation has led to 21 individuals and three companies being scrutinized for culpable homicide. Initially, the prosecutors were considering charges of voluntary manslaughter with possible intent, but these charges have now been dismissed.

The victims of this tragic accident were workers Kevin LaganĀ , Michael Zanera, Giuseppe Sorvillo, Giuseppe Aversa, and Giuseppe Saverio Lombardo. The company responsible for their employment, Sigifer, is under investigation alongside RFI, the rail infrastructure company, and CLF, a rail-construction firm based in Bologna.

Among the individuals facing scrutiny are former RFI CEOs Vera Fiorani and Gianpiero Strisciuglio, who are part of the ongoing investigation. The authorities are continuing to examine the roles and responsibilities of these entities and individuals in relation to the disaster.
