Vehicular Homicide Charges in Fatal Milan Scooter Crash

Milan: The friend of a 19-year-old Egyptian-Italian, Ramy Elgaml, who tragically lost his life after their scooter crashed following an 8-kilometer police chase, has been charged with vehicular homicide. The Carabiniere officer driving the last pursuing vehicle is also facing the same charge, according to judicial sources.

According to Ansa News Agency, the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office has concluded its investigation in preparation for a trial request. The charges against Fares Bouzidi, who was driving the scooter, stem from the fatal crash that killed Elgaml during the police pursuit on November 24. The investigation also implicates the paramilitary officer operating the last police vehicle in the chase.

The case has gained attention due to a video that allegedly shows the last police car colliding with the scooter after it had come to a stop, an assertion that law enforcement officials have contested. The incident has sparked several days of unrest in a predominantly immigrant, working-class area of Milan, highlighting tensions in the community.
