Vatican Congratulates First Anglican Woman Leader

Vatican city: The Vatican on Friday congratulated the Anglican Church’s first woman primate, Sarah Mullally. The Vatican sent a message of congratulations to Mullally following her election as the Archbishop of Canterbury.

According to Ansa News Agency, the Vatican Prefect for the Promotion of Christian Unity, Kurt Koch, expressed hope that Mullally would serve as an “instrument of communion and unity.” Koch highlighted the ongoing dialogue between Catholics and Anglicans, which has been sustained for nearly sixty years. He noted that despite occasional tensions, the effort to achieve deeper communion has been supported by the positive relationships between the pastors of the two faiths.

Cardinal Koch emphasized his hope for the continuation of this communion, underscoring the importance of the relationship between the Anglican and Catholic communities.
