Vatican and Microsoft Launch Interactive Learning Experience in Minecraft Education

Vatican City: Minecraft Education has collaborated with St. Peter’s Basilica and Microsoft to launch a new interactive learning experience that allows students to explore the historic site. The initiative, named Peter Is Here, is designed to provide an educational journey through St. Peter’s Basilica, integrating history with modern innovation.

According to Ansa News Agency, this project builds upon the St. Peter’s Basilica: AI-Enhanced Experience, an AI-driven initiative introduced last November alongside Microsoft. The experience is part of the Jubilee celebrations this year. Peter Is Here enables students to engage with the Basilica’s history through significant events, participate in restoration activities, and understand the fusion of cultural heritage with contemporary technology.

Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, the Archpriest of St. Peter’s Basilica, emphasized the educational aim of the experience. He stated that it is designed to guide students in discovering the spiritual, artistic, and architectural significance preserved in St. Peter’s Basilica, a site that has facilitated dialogue between the human and the divine for generations.

The interactive learning experience employs AI-based tools to allow students to explore the Basilica’s architecture and art. Microsoft Copilot and Microsoft Designer were integral in developing the game’s historic context and visual elements. Catholic schools globally and schools throughout Italy will be the first to integrate this educational tool into their curriculum.
