Valentino Group’s Subsidiary Placed Under Administration Over Alleged Exploitation
Milan: A company belonging to the Valentino fashion group, Valentino Bags Lab srl, was placed into administration by a Milan court over allegations of worker exploitation. The court’s decision on Thursday marks a significant step in addressing labor issues connected to the luxury fashion industry.
According to Ansa News Agency, Valentino Bags Lab srl, responsible for producing bags and travel accessories for its parent company Valentino spa, allegedly overlooked exploitation practices in Chinese factories within its subcontracting chain. This oversight is at the center of the court’s decision to place the company into administration.
The action taken by the Milan court stems from an investigation led by the Carabinieri police’s Labour Inspectorate Unit and coordinated by Milan prosecutors. This investigation is part of a broader probe that has, over recent years, uncovered cases of worker exploitation by companies operating in Italy, including several multinational corporations. The court’s move underscores ongoing efforts to combat labor exploitation in the fashion industry, shining a light on the responsibility of companies to ensure ethical practices throughout their supply chains.
