US Tariffs Threaten 68,000 Jobs in Italy

Rome: Some 68,000 jobs are at risk in Italy due to US President Donald Trump’s tariffs, the Parliamentary Budget Office (UPB) said on Thursday.

According to Ansa News Agency, the US tariffs will impact almost every sector of the Italian economy, leading to a loss at the aggregate level of added value of around three-tenths of a percentage point. This was stated by UPB President Lilia Cavallari during a joint hearing of the Lower House and Senate budget committees on the government’s economic blueprint, the public finance document (DFP).

“The effect in terms of employment is quantifiable in about 68,000 fewer jobs in total,” Cavallari explained. She highlighted that the pharmaceutical, mining, automotive, chemical, metallurgical, and machinery manufacturing sectors would be the worst affected, as per the UPB’s simulations.

The tariffs are expected to have wide-ranging effects, underscoring the interconnected nature of global trade and its impact on national economies.
