UN’s Role in Ceasefire Implementation Gains Momentum, Says Chigi

Rome: A government meeting at Palazzo Chigi on Wednesday centered on discussions regarding an upcoming Summit on Peace and Security in Ukraine, which is scheduled to take place Thursday in Paris. The meeting focused on the implementation of a future ceasefire, with particular attention given to the potential involvement of the United Nations in monitoring and policing the truce, as highlighted in a statement from Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s office.

According to Ansa News Agency, the statement from Meloni’s office emphasized the growing acceptance of the United Nations’ involvement in the ceasefire process, a stance that has long been advocated by the Italian government. The meeting underscored this potential role as a key topic of discussion.

The meeting, convened by Prime Minister Meloni at Palazzo Chigi, was attended by several high-ranking officials. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, participated via video link, while Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini, and Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, were also present.

Prime Minister Meloni is set to participate in the Summit on Peace and Security of Ukraine, which has been convened by French President Emmanuel Macron. The summit in Paris will feature discussions among the so-called coalition of the willing, focusing on strategies for peace and security in Ukraine.
