Turin: A medical team at Turin’s Molinette Hospital achieved a significant milestone by successfully operating on a pregnant woman diagnosed with a rare skull tumor, allowing her to safely carry her pregnancy to term, according to the Città della Salute agency.
According to Ansa News Agency, the operation involved a minimally invasive endoscopic technique to remove a chondrosarcoma-a type of cancer that typically affects the long bones but in this case, was located inside the cartilage of the woman’s skull. This rare condition was diagnosed during the fourth month of her pregnancy. The surgical procedure, which lasted about three hours, was a critical step in ensuring both the mother’s and baby’s health.
Following the successful surgery, the woman continued her pregnancy and delivered a healthy baby via caesarean section in the 38th week at Sant’Anna Hospital, which is also part of the Città della Salute network. Post-delivery, the mother, who is still undergoing treatment for her cancer, and her newborn we
re reported to be in good health and have since returned home.
