Shanghai: Italy’s Jannik Sinner secured a significant triumph in the Shanghai Masters, defeating Serbian ace Novak Djokovic with scores of 7-6(4) and 6-3. This victory not only earned Sinner the prestigious title but also solidified his position as the world’s number one in the ATP singles rankings.
According to Ansa News Agency, the 23-year-old Italian, who has had an extraordinary year with wins at both the Australian Open and the US Open, ensured he would conclude the year as the top-ranked player after his semi-final win over Czech player Tomas Machac. Sinner, who ascended to the top ranking in June, became the first Italian to achieve this feat since the inception of computerized rankings in 1973 and has maintained this position since then.
The match against Djokovic proved to be a challenging contest. Sinner expressed his respect for Djokovic, describing playing against him as one of the toughest challenges in tennis. He highlighted the importance of seizing the limited opportunities Djokovic presents
