Transport Ministry Plans Overhaul of 10 Railway Stations Across Hungary

BUDAPEST: Hungary’s construction and transport ministry is set to coordinate the revamp of ten major railway stations, as announced by János Lázár. The initiative aims to modernize transportation hubs while integrating commercial opportunities through private investment.

According to About Hungary, the Debrecen railway station will be the first to undergo reconstruction, with plans to incorporate private capital into the development. The project will separate commercial functions from railway operations, paving the way for the creation of a shopping mall that will serve as a point of arrival for travelers.

The ministry has opened tenders to private investors for projects in Debrecen, located in eastern Hungary, as well as in Gyor in the west and Szeged in the south. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance infrastructure and improve services at some of the country’s busiest railway stations.
