Tourist Fined 500 Euros for Trevi Fountain Dip

Rome: A 30-year-old New Zealander living in London faced a 500-euro fine after taking an unauthorized dip in Rome’s iconic Trevi Fountain on Saturday night.

According to Ansa News Agency, the man was initially stopped by police along with two companions. However, he managed to break free and entered the historic waters. The Trevi Fountain is famously known as the setting where Anita Ekberg called to Marcello Mastroianni in Fellini’s “Dolce Vita” and is a popular spot for tourists who throw coins into the fountain, hoping to ensure a return to Rome.

In addition to the fine, the New Zealander has been banned from returning to the city, marking a strict enforcement of rules aimed at preserving Rome’s cultural heritage.
