Time to Pacify Region After Violent Campaign Says Occhiuto

Calabria: It is now time to pacify the Calabria region after a violent election campaign, victorious centre-right confirmed Governor Roberto Occhiuto said after beating the centre-left’s Pasquale Tridico on Monday.

According to Ansa News Agency, Occhiuto, a member of the centre-right post Berlusconi Forza Italia (FI), expressed his gratitude towards the coalition leaders with whom he collaborated to bring forward the elections by a year. He had previously stepped down amid a corruption probe, asserting his innocence throughout the investigation.

Occhiuto conveyed his appreciation to the Calabrian people, expressing pride in the election outcome. He anticipates that the results will be even more significant than initially perceived. Additionally, Occhiuto acknowledged Pasquale Tridico for his gracious concession and extended an invitation for Tridico to collaborate in any capacity he chooses.

Emphasizing the need for unity, Occhiuto proposed that it would be beneficial to pacify the region following what he described as a violent election campaign. His remarks highlight a call for reconciliation and cooperation in the aftermath of the elections.
