Rome: Two-time ex-premier and left-wing 5-Star Movement (M5S) leader Giuseppe Conte on Monday expressed gratitude towards M5S MEP and former social security and pensions agency INPS chief Pasquale Tridico for his efforts in the Calabrian regional election campaign. Despite Tridico’s ultimately unsuccessful attempt to unseat the incumbent centre-right Governor Roberto Occhiuto, Conte acknowledged the uphill battle faced during the campaign ahead of the vote held on Sunday and Monday.
According to Ansa News Agency, Conte took to social media to extend his thanks to Tridico. He emphasized that Tridico took on the challenge out of love for his homeland, agreeing to run under emergency conditions. Tridico accepted the unanimous invitation from various political, social, and cultural groups who urged him to participate in what was anticipated to be a challenging election campaign.
Conte also highlighted the unusual nature of these elections, which were hastily organized by the outgoing president Occhiuto following a notice of investigation. Despite the adverse circumstances, Tridico’s commitment was acknowledged and appreciated by Conte and his supporters.
