Third Nursing Home Patient Dies in Florence Due to Suspected Food Poisoning

Florence: A third nursing home resident in Florence died on Thursday in a suspected fatal food poisoning case, investigative sources said. Two other patients of the care home died on Monday while a fourth person is in critical condition at the local Careggi Hospital.

According to Ansa News Agency, the deaths are suspected to be linked to a meal all four people ate at the nursing home before getting sick on Monday. The meals were reportedly cooked at another nursing home in the area of Florence, which has been temporarily closed following the incident.

The State Attorney’s Office in Florence and local health authority ASL Central Tuscany are investigating the incident. The health authority is looking into 114 cases of gastroenteritis among residents in four care homes in Florence and the surrounding province.
