Terror Charges Dropped Against Tuscan Anarchist in Carabinieri Arson Case

Florence: Terror charges have been dropped against a 30-year-old Tuscan anarchist accused of an arson attack on a Carabinieri barracks near Florence earlier this week, judicial sources said Saturday. The man, Antonio Recati, from Prato, remains in prison for the arson attack on the Carabinieri barracks in Borgo San Lorenzo (Florence) on the night of January 13 “due to the risk of repeating crimes,” according to a decision by preliminary investigations judge (GIP) Angela Fantechi, ruling on the arrest and excluding the aggravating circumstance of terrorism.

According to Ansa News Agency, the attack had a political purpose, ruled the GIP, but the terrorist purpose has not been convincingly ascertained and therefore she did not validate the arrest. Psychiatric observation and high surveillance have been requested from the prison. At the request of his defense, Recati will be subjected to medical checks.
