Tennis: Sinner Beats Zverev to Retain Australian Open Title

Melbourne: Italy’s world number one Jannik Sinner defeated Germany’s Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 at the Rod Laver Arena to retain the Australian Open men’s singles title.

According to Ansa News Agency, this marks the 23-year-old Sinner’s third Grand Slam win, having previously secured victory at the 2024 US Open. The match concluded with Sinner executing a decisive winner into an open court after drawing the second-ranked Zverev to the net with a drop shot. Throughout the tournament, Sinner did not face a break point against Zverev and only dropped two sets overall, even though he experienced a medical issue during his match against Denmark’s Holger Rune in the last 16.

This victory increases Sinner’s total ATP Tour titles to 18. In addition to his individual success, Sinner has also led Italy to victory in the Davis Cup in both 2023 and 2024.
