Technocracy Won’t Save Us, Pope Says from Hospital

Rome: Pope Francis stated that technocracy will not be the world’s savior and criticized neo-liberal deregulation in a message addressed to participants at the General Assembly of the Pontifical Academy for Life. The message, dated February 26, was signed from Rome’s Gemelli hospital.

According to Ansa News Agency, the Pope emphasized the continuous advancements in the sciences, which provide new insights into the structure of matter and the evolution of living beings. He highlighted that these discoveries reveal a much more dynamic vision of nature than what was understood during Newton’s era.

Pope Francis further elaborated on the need to rethink the concept of ‘continuous creation,’ asserting that technocracy alone will not rescue humanity. He referenced his Laudato si encyclical, stressing that adhering to utilitarian, neo-liberal planetary deregulation equates to enforcing the law of the strongest, a principle he believes is dehumanizing.
